Doesn't Dolly sound not too eager to play for Bafana? Or is it just me?

The Story Is: Kaizer Chiefs captain, Keagan Dolly, is still open to playing for the national team should a call-up come.

But he has also made it clear that Chiefs and his family are his biggest priority at this stage of his career, which makes it sound like making the Bafana squad is not really his goal at the moment.

"Ya, look, I’ve always wanted to represent my country and I still want to do that, it’s always an ambition of mine to help the country qualify for major tournaments you know and that’s still in me," Dolly said as quoted by iDiski Times. https://www.idiskitimes.co.za/africa-cup-of-nations/dolly-on-bafana-snub-after-and-2023-afcon-qualification/

"But look we’re focused on Kaizer Chiefs and the game this weekend, we’re happy the boys qualified, we’re happy we’re going to AFCON and we don’t know what’s going to happen next whoever makes it needs to make sure we go there and do the country proud."

"If I happen to make the team, I make it, I will give my best – if I don’t, I’ve said that it gives me some time as well to spend with my family." he added.

"I’m at a stage of my life where I want to give my best to Kaizer Chiefs and if I do go to Bafana, I do and I’ll give my best."

The Fact Of The Matter Is: Hugo Broos can do with more experienced players as he sets his sights on a good showing in Ivory Coast AFCON 2024.

Dolly, who has featured 23 times for the national team, hasn't really set the scene in Bafana colors compared to his exploits at club level, the upcoming AFCON is an opportunity for him to write his name amongst national team legends.

Under Broos, Dolly has donned the national team colors four times, but due to his inconsistent performances at club level, he has found himself frozen out.

At the age of 30, with the talent and experience at his disposal, it is not too late for Dolly to show more enthusiasm about representing the country.

He has made 10 goal contributions for Chiefs so far this season, with five goals and five assists, not a bad return considering his struggles with form.

In A Nutshell: A consistent and determined Dolly can be a valuable addition to Bafana ahead of next year's AFCON.

His educated left-foot is a lethal weapon during set-pieces, a part of the game that is vital in the modern game, especially in tournaments like the AFCON, where set-pieces can decide the results during tight encounters.

But Bafana will need a more enthusiastic Dolly, who is still hungry to make his name in the national team.

Why winning the Caf Champions League, should in fact, be an obsession for Sundowns.

Image: Twitter

The Story Is: Mamelodi Sundowns head coach, Rulani Mokwena, has said that although winning the CAFCL is a dream for Downs, it is not an obsession.

Sundowns have already qualified for the quarter-finals, with a game to spare, which they will play on
Saturday 01 April against Coton Sport at Loftus Versfeld Stadium, kicking off at 21:00.

"We have to work hard for it [to win the Champions League], that’s always the priority and this is the message I sent to the players," said Mokwena.

"The ambition to win the Champions League is not an obsession, it is the same ambition that comes from the space where we want to win the league title. That’s a dream and it is a dream we hope we can turn into reality sooner rather than later.

"The ambition to win the Nedbank Cup comes from the same space as the ambition to try to win the Champions League.

"As Sundowns, we will win the Champions League. It might not happen this season, maybe it happens next season or the season after. But the performances and the work we put in every day must reflect the dream.

"The dream of trying to win the Champions League is a positive dream and one we live and work for every day."

Also Read: https://safootballtxt.blogspot.com/2023/03/why-pirates-must-be-wary-of-richards_31.html?m=1

The Fact Of The Matter Is: Sundowns should actually be more than obsessed about winning the CAFCL.

They have won everything there is to win in South African football. They are well on their way to lifting a sixth league title in a row, with a possibility of winning it with more than 20 points.

That speaks of domination, that speaks of a team that is far ahead of the rest.

But it is in Africa that Masandawana are yet to flex their football muscle. Since winning the CAFCL title in 2016 under Pitso Mosimane, Downs are yet to stage another serious assault for the coveted trophy.

They looked good to go last season, before choking against Pedro Du Luanda in the quarter-final stage.

Once again this season, Downs look like a team that can go all the way.

And go all the way they must, because all that is left for them to achieve is to conquer Africa once again, before they move on to bigger things like hunting for a Fifa Club World Cup medal.

In A Nutshell: No one really cares whether Sundowns wins the Nedbank Cup or any other local title anymore. That is expected of them.

But for them to be mentioned in the same breath as Al Ahly SC, and the likes of Wydad Casablanca, Downs must win another CAFCL title.

It must be their sole obsession.

Why Pirates must be wary of Richards Bay, and Chiefs might be in trouble against Stellenbosch FC.

Orlando Pirates and Kaizer Chiefs are pushing for a second spot finish, which will give them passage to next season's Caf Champions League.

This coming Saturday, the two Soweto giants will be looking for nothing less than three points when they take on Richards Bay, and Stellenbosch FC respectively in their quest to leap-frog second placed SuperSport United.

Richards Bay FC vs Orlando Pirates:

Based on current form and statistics, Orlando Pirates should have no problems disposing of Richards Bay when the two sides clash on Saturday 01 April at King Zwelithini Stadium, Durban.

After-all, the Rich Boys are currently enduring a poor run of form, having lost all their last five matches, scoring just a single goal, with 10 conceded.

With Pirates buoyed by their quest for the all-important CAFCL spot, they will be looking to rub salt to Bay's open wound by handing them a sixth defeat in a row.

The last time the two sides met, Bucs dominated proceedings, with 69% ball possession, and 11 attempts on goal, with the Rich Boys settling for just 31% of the ball, and a mere two goal attempts.

More of the same can be expected on Saturday, with Pirates dominating possession and creating the better chances.

But there is one factor that might work in Richards Bay's favor, and that is the change in their technical team's hierarchy.

Just before the international break, the Rich Boys announced Vasili Manousakis as their sole head coach, with Pitso Dladla relegated to an assistant role after they worked as co-coaches throughout the season.

Coaching changes seem to motivate players as they perform above themselves in the first few games to impress the new coach.

That is what Pirates will have to contend with, a rejuvenated Richards Bay looking to get back to winning ways.

If Amabhakaniya can keep cool heads and be able to handle a resurgent Bay, they may walk away with the much needed three points.

Kaizer Chiefs vs Stellenbosch FC:

Amakhosi will host Stellies on Saturday 01 April at FNB Stadium, with the kickoff at 17:30.

This should be an exciting fixture, with both sides currently enjoying a rich run of form.

Chiefs have won three of their last five games, showing a bit of consistency for the first time this season, with four wins in a row if you include the Nedbank Cup.

While Arthur Zwane will be hoping for a continuation of their good run, they are facing a Stellies side that is also on an upward trajectory.

Steve Barker's youngsters, boosted by the return of Dstv Premiership Player of The Month, Iqraam Rayners, have been unstoppable lately.

They have won four out of their last five league games, dropping points only against Mamelodi Sundowns in a 1-1 draw.

The only thing that can separate the two sides in this all-important encounter is who takes their chances.

With Amakhosi's ability to create chances, with a positive xGF (expected goals for) of 1.68 per match, and Stellenbosch's unconvincing xGA (expected goals against) of 1.35 per match, we can expect Chiefs to have no problems finding the back of the net.

But it is Chiefs' defending that Stellenbosch may look to exploit, Amakhosi average 1.13 goals conceded per match, with Stellies in a mean scoring mood lately, having scored 10 goals in their last five matches, expect them two score a goal or two at FNB.

This is a difficult encounter to predict, but one thing for, there will be a lot of exciting action and goals from both sides.

With David Notoane having stepped down as SA Under-23 coach, here are four possible coaches to replace him.

Former SA Under-23 coach, David Notoane.

South Africa's failure to qualify for the AFCON U23 tournament which also serves as an Olympics qualifier, is a total disaster.

Talented youngsters have missed out on an opportunity for further development through competitive international football, which would have been a possible pathway to Bafana Bafana, and overseas moves.

What hurts the most about their failure to qualify is that it was not through a fault of their own. Lack of adequate preparation for such a crucial encounter was the main factor.

And all fingers point to the mother body, SAFA.

Notoane revealed on MSW that he was working without a contract, which is a red flag for such a special project as the U23 team.

On top of that, he did not receive the necessary support, in terms of enough games to prepare the team.

Maybe it is time for SAFA to take youth national teams seriously, beginning with the appointments of full-time coaches instead of freelancers!

Also Read: https://safootballtxt.blogspot.com/2023/03/now-that-bafana-have-qualified-for.html?m=1

Four possible names for the job:

Thabo Senong

Senong has worked within the SAFA structures before, with youth and the senior national team.

He went on to gain more international experience as Botswana senior men's national team.

Once tipped as a future Bafana coach, Senong has a wealth of experience working with youth players, from his time with Diambars Academy.

He possesses all the coaching tools and experience needed to lead our U23s to the 2028 Olympic games.

Shaun Bartlett.

The former Bafana Bafana forward has shown a great ability to get the best out of youth players.

His work and experience with amaTuks and Cape Town Spurs has proven beyond any reasonable doubt his strengths as a coach.

If SAFA decides to stop cutting corners and appoint full-time youth coaches, there is no way Bartlett's name can be overlooked.

Farouk Khan

Khan is an encyclopedia of SA football, period.

His work from his Kaizer Chiefs days to Stars Of Africa is well-documented.

In a South Africa that is serious about its football, Khan would be part of the national youth structures.

His appointment would be a no brainer.

Mandla Ncikazi

From Lamontville Golden Arrows to Orlando Pirates, Ncikazi has shown he has what it takes to get the best out of local players.

He understands local football, and has adequate international experience with Pirates in the Caf Confederations Cup.

Given an opportunity and Support, Ncikazi can whip the U23 team into shape.

Now that Bafana have qualified for AFCON, let Broos finish what he started.

Bafana coach, Hugo Broos. Image credit: Lorenz Kohler Social Media.

Bafana Bafana coach, Hugo Broos, ditched sophistication in favor of efficiency to ensure that his side beat Liberia 2-1 on Tuesday at the
Samuel Kanyon Doe Sports Complex.

The crucial victory, achieved through a work-men like performance, booked Bafana a place at the 2024 AFCON to be hosted by Ivory Coast in January.

The weight of the match, and the conditions it was played under, saw Bafana enjoying only 37% of the ball, 10 goal attempts and four shots on target, with two of them converted to goals by Zakhele Lepasa 19' and Mihlali Mayambela 53'.

Despite a not so easy on the eye performance, Bafana managed to keep Liberia at only two shots on target, although they enjoyed the lion's share of possession, 68%, and 13 goal attempts.

Ugly win, yes, but very important. Sometimes in football, beauty is just an aesthetic.

Now that we have qualified, it is time to get down to some serious business for Broos and SAFA, that of ensuring that we have a strong, well prepared Bafana team for Ivory Coast 2024.

Expecting Bafana to go and challenge for the title would be an illusion, we are maybe 10 years away from really putting up a strong continental challenge, but we can compete.

Friendlies against strong opposition will be key for the team. And maybe it is time for Broos to be more consistent with his selection, which will help with the synergy amongst the players.

At best, the AFCON 2024 participation will do wonders for Bafana's chances to qualify for the 2026 World Cup.

Honestly, we can't expect miracles from poor ol' Broos, considering the players at his disposal, but we can expect better than the embarrassments of the past.

A World Cup qualification, Broos, our good Sir, please.

Even in Saudi Arabia, they can earn a lot of money - Says Mosimane to South African players.

Al Ahli Saudi coach, Pitso Mosimane.

Al Ahli Saudi head coach, Pitso Mosimane, believes South African players should consider moving to countries like Saudi Arabia where they can make a lot of money.

The experienced mentor, who is well known for playing the role of a father figure to players, and giving valuable advice, says players must not think of playing abroad in terms of the top six European leagues only.

"I think the players don’t know what is happening outside, they only say 'Europe', whereas there’s North Africa," Mosimane said as quoted by Sowetan Live https://www.sowetanlive.co.za/sport/soccer/2023-03-28-players-must-understand-playing-abroad-doesnt-only-mean-england-mosimane/

"Second, there’s the Gulf here and there’s also Europe. There’s the Europe of the top six leagues in the world and there’s the Europe where Patson Daka started [in Austria], where Sadio Mane started [in France's Ligue 2].

"There are also those [countries] in Europe of Scandinavia and Belgium. Those countries also develop players, so players need to understand that.

"The agents also, what advice are they giving players?" he asked.

"Sometimes I look at certain players and say ‘this guy is such a good football player. He can go out with his talent and play in a better league and earn more money’.

"But I’m conflicted, I can’t say a lot because I don’t want problems — [it will be] like now I’m throwing the cat among the pigeons.

Mosimane said he is always available to give advice to South African players should they need it.

"But players are there, [do they] want to speak? I’m available to give advice privately. They can call me and I can say to them, ‘I think you can play there and you can play there and with your talent you have the capacity’, because I have travelled.

"I’ve been in that space and I know what is happening in that space. Even in Saudi [Arabia], they can earn a lot of money. It's all about what is on the contract, how long your contract is and all that.

"Sometimes long-term contracts are good and sometimes they are not good for players.

"You know with five years, sometimes you can’t come out. Even [Kylian] Mbappé doesn’t sign five years, but it’s the system here [in South Africa]. Even [Lionel] Messi doesn’t sign five years, let’s be honest."

David Notoane talks about soul searching after SA Under-23 AFCON exit.

SA Under-23. Image credit: iDiski Times Twitter

It is now history that the South African Under-23 side will not be part of the AFCON U23 tournament to be hosted by Morocco.

Meaning no chance at fighting for Olympics participation for this talented group of players.

In his media statement, U23 coach David Notoane, talked about a lot of soul searching to be done regarding his team's direction.

In this case, maybe it is SAFA, the custodian of our football who must do some introspection concerning the way they treat the junior national teams.

For example, while Bafana Bafana play friendly matches every other international break, not enough has been done for an equally important team like the U23s.

Against Congo in the first leg match played at Dobsonville Stadium last Thursday, South Africa's performance was embarrassingly disjointed.

A sign of a team hastily put together to fulfill the fixture without adequate preparation or friendly matches to build synergy amongst the players.

It is such a shame that such a talented group of players were not given enough support to prepare them for an equal qualifier like the one against Congo.

With more games together under their belt, Notoane's team were not going to have any problems with the disposing of the Congolese.

But this is South Africa, where adequate planning and preparation is a foreign language.

Notoane's thoughts on the game, and his disappointment:

"A Very, very difficult result and outcome, which we didn’t deserve but it’s football," Notoane told SAFA’s media team as quoted by iDiski Times. https://www.idiskitimes.co.za/african-football/notoane-emotional-after-failing-to-qualify-for-u23-afcon/

"[I’m] very very disappointed on a personal level because I think the game was within our grasp to get a result. We had planned to make sure that defensively we are tight, which we didn’t concede was very good.

"But then we missed some very very good chances, Radiopane had two one-vs-ones, then at the end Mduduzi Shabalala had a breakthrough on transition play on the platter to finish unfortunately again it’s all down to decision-making.

Also Read: https://safootballtxt.wordpress.com/2023/03/28/top-south-african-youngsters-to-miss-out-on-further-development-and-possible-european-moves/

"[I’m] very, very disappointed but I think again the boys put up a very galant fight under very difficult conditions and we’re going out on an away-goal rule unfortunately and it’s football. It wasn’t our time.

"But it’s emotionally very much draining, if one looks at the circumstances overall in terms of our campaign and it leaves one with a lot more questions and a lot more soul searching about the process that we on in regard to this team."

Top South African youngsters to miss out on further development and possible European moves.

Image: iDiski Times Twitter

With the national Under-23 team having failed to qualify for AFCON U23 Championships to be held in Morocco, which means no Olyimpic games for them, an opportunity to be scouted by top European clubs is gone.

It is not only the U23s that have missed out, earlier this month, AFCON Under-20 Championships were held in Egypt, and once again South Africa was missing in action.

The continuous absence of our junior national teams in international tournaments is negatively affecting not only the further development of our top youngsters, who miss out on possible European moves, but it affects our senior national team as well, who are denied a steady supply of well developed youngsters to carry them forward.

There is no doubt about the talent South Africa has in terms of young players coming through the ranks.

But the likes of Mduduzi Shabalala, Mfundo Vilakazi, Ntando Nkosi, Relebohile Ratomo, Siyabonga Mabhena to name only a few, will need to compete against the best of their peers if they are to reach the heights of international football, but that won't be possible with the continued failure of our youth national teams to qualify for major tournaments like the Under-20 World Cup and the Olympic games.

Also Read: https://safootballtxt.blogspot.com/2023/03/south-africa-as-football-nation-dying.html?m=1

Luckily, the national Under-17 side managed to qualify for the AFCON Under-17 Championships after making it through the COSAFA region.

Their coach, Duncan Crowie, and the boys must be commended for making it through, hopefully, they will qualify for the next U17 World Championships.

The fact of the matter is, if our youth national teams don't participate against the best of their peers on the world stage, we can kiss the hopes of having a strong Bafana Bafana side in the near future goodbye.

Senegal, Nigeria, Ghana, Ivory Coast, Cameroon, and Morocco will continue to be miles ahead of South Africa because they take their youth national teams seriously, hence their continued participation in youth World Cups and an influx of their top youngsters to European leagues.

As for South Africa, the COSAFA Cup is the only tournament we will be guaranteed to take part in, not that we will win it either, as we are quickly falling behind the likes of Zambia and Angola in the region.

South Africa as a football nation: A dying dream.

Image: Twitter

Last night, SA Under-23 side, led by David Notoane, saw their dream of participating in the AFCON U23 tournament to be held in Morocco, and the 2024 Paris Olympics die a sad death.

This comes after they failed to beat Congo at home in the first leg last week on Thursday. They drew 1-1, which meant they had a difficult task of trying to beat Congo away, something they couldn't achieve as the game ended goalless.

As I write this, Bafana Bafana are putting final touches to their preparations for the crunch AFCON 2024 qualifier against Liberia, to be played tonight at the
Samuel Kanyon Doe Sports Complex.

Bafana need to beat Liberia away from home after giving away a 2-0 lead to draw 2-2 on Friday night at Orlando Stadium.

Bafana had a straightforward passage to AFCON 2024 to be held in Ivory Coast.

All they had to do was to beat 150th ranked Liberia twice to qualify from a three nations group after Zimbabwe were suspended.

But somehow, our national team managed to make such a simple task the most difficult one. Now their qualification hopes hang by a Liberia thread.

Earlier this month, AFCON Under-20 Championships were held in Egypt, a tournament won by Senegal after beating Gambia 2-0 in the final at Cairo International Stadium.

South Africa were notable absentees in the tournament after failing to make it past the COSAFA qualification tournament.

That meant our U20s missed out on a chance to gain valuable international experience, and giving U20 World Cup qualification a go.

In February, African Nations Championships (CHAN), were held in Algeria, a tournament won by Senegal after beating the hosts 5-4 on penalties.

Again, South Africa, a nation that is still holding on to an illusion of viewing itself as a football powerhouse in Africa, were missing in action.

In the domestic front, Mamelodi Sundowns are more than 20 points ahead of the rest in the Dstv Premiership log, and well on their way to a sixth league title in a row.

While two of South Africa's biggest clubs, Orlando Pirates and Kaizer Chiefs are involved in a dogfight for second spot, which is currently occupied by SuperSport United.

How did we get here? One may ask, a point where two of the country's giants have become so ordinary, and our men's national teams have become a joke?

Only the powers that be have all the answers, but as things stand, whether Bafana qualifies for Ivory Coast 2024 ahead of Liberia or not, the dream of South Africa as a football nation is dying a slow and painful death.

Why Chiefs will be better title challengers than Pirates next season.

Kaizer Chiefs, with small adjustments, can challenge for the league title ahead of Orlando Pirates next season, according to statistics.

Arthur Zwane has been a subject of much criticism this season, with sections of Amakhosi fans calling for his sacking.

Lack of consistency has been Chiefs' downfall, with the boys from Naturena hardly going on a decent winning streak.

But if their statistics are anything to go by, Chiefs can look forward to a productive 2023/24 season.

What has let Zwane's men the most in this campaign, is their chaotic defending.

According to FootyStats.Org, https://footystats.org/clubs/kaizer-chiefs-fc-1278, Amakhosi average 1.13 goals conceded per match, which has led to them conceding 27 goals in the league this season.

Compared to Orlando Pirates, who average 0.74 goals conceded per match, if Chiefs were able to defend better, they would have won a few more matches in the league, leading to a better log position.

The fact that they are equal on points with Pirates, despite having what can be called a bad season for them, tells a story of the great potential Zwane's team possesses, only if they can shut the back door.

The signing of Thatayaone Ditlhokwe, and the imminent addition of Given Msimango, will strengthen Amakhosi's last line, meaning less goals conceded, half a problem solved!

The next area of concern for Zwane should be the number six role.

Amakhosi are in a desperate need of someone who can take charge of their engine room, while providing adequate cover for their defence.

With Andile Jali and Sibongiseni Mthethwa's names still part of conversations at Amakhosi, signing one of these two can be a major coup.

It is in offensive play that Amakhosi's stats bring much hope, showing the team is not as bad as it has been made out to be.

Also Read: https://safootballtxt.wordpress.com/2023/03/27/we-cant-rely-on-a-pensioner-mammila-on-broos/

Chiefs average 1.17 goals scored per match, compared to Amabhakaniya's 1.13.

When it comes to creating good goalscoring opportunities, Amakhosi are again slightly ahead of Pirates, with an xGA (expected goals for) of 1.68 per match, to Bucs' 1.57.

In the shots taken per match column, Amakhosi again edge their Soweto rivals, with 11.78 shots, while Pirates stand at 11.35. Both teams have a shot conversion of 10%.

What these statistics prove is that there is not much separating the two Soweto giants, except that Amabhakaniya have an MTN8 trophy in their cabinet.

With small adjustments in their defence, which they are currently undertaking, and a new addition in their number six role, Amakhosi can find themselves ahead of Orlando Pirates in title challenge of next season.

We can't rely on a pensioner - Mammila on Broos.

Image: Facebook

Swallows FC Technical Advisor, Morgan Mammila is known for not being afraid to shoot from the hip.

The former Chippa United was at it again, calling Bafana coach, Hugo Broos, a pensioner that cannot be relied on to lead the national team back to its former glory.

"How on earth can we rely on pensioners to do a better job than young smart coaches," Mammila said on social media as quoted by goal.com https://www.goal.com/en-za/news/mammila-lunges-into-pensioner-bafana-bafana-coach-broos-we-are-testing-poison-with-our-tongues/blt094fad8090360bc9

"We testing poison with our tongues as South Africans. I saw signs of failure in this coach and people thought I was crazy and clueless."

It is not the first time Mammila has taken a dig at Broos.

During the Qatar 2022 World Cup, while singing Morocco's praises after they made history by being the first African country to reach the World Cup semi-finals, Mammila said Bafana need a younger coach if they are to emulate Morocco, not a 70-year-old pensioner.

"We want to go back to the old Bafana Bafana. We are tired of excuses now. Only young and local national team coaches will do well in their country," he tweeted.

"We must not shy to copy what is working from [the] national team of Morocco and other African countries, who were in the World Cup. A 70-year-old pensioner must stay at home."

Like many South Africans, Mammila has been advocating for Al Ahli Saudi coach, Pitso Mosimane to be recalled to lead Bafana Bafana.

Broos will be hoping for a win away in Liberia on Tuesday at the Samuel Kanyon Doe Sports Complex, which will see Bafana qualify for Afcon 2024 in Ivory Coast.

Failure to qualify will be yet another disaster for South African football, with Bafana having failed to make the last Afcon edition in Cameroon.

Al Ahly were poor under Mosimane - Says Mortagy

Despite winning the CAFCL, the Caf Super Cup and guiding Al Ahly SC to a third place finish in the Fifa Club World Cup, it seems Pitso Mosimane didn't do enough to please some sections of the Al Ahly hierarchy.

Al Ahly SC treasurer, Khaled Mortagy, believes current mentor, Marcel Koller, is way better than Mosimane.

Mortagy's comments come at a time when Al Ahly almost got knockout on match-day five of the Caf Chanpions League.

They were saved by Ronwen Williams last minute penalty save against Al Hilal Omdurman, whom they have to beat at home on match-day six to advance to the quarter-finals.

"As a fan, I see that Al Ahly has a very good team, and it has the best coach that came to Egypt since Manuel Jose, and his technical staff is exceptional," Mortagy said on King Fut as quoted by goal.comhttps://www.goal.com/en-za/news/koller-much-better-than-pitso-al-ahly-official-mortagy-downplays-mosimane-achievements-at-egyptian-giants/bltb5b258097ecf2ca0

"Pitso Mosimane was different, but Koller is much better than him. Mosimane achieved titles, but Al Ahly’s performances dropped massively during his last period.

Mosimane's training sessions were not good enough:

"There were no adequate training sessions with the South African coach. I don’t want to talk more about Mosimane’s negatives. He won us many trophies and we should respect him for that. He is one of the best coaches," he added.

Also Read: https://safootballtxt.wordpress.com/2023/03/26/liberia-coach-threatens-troubled-bafana/

"Koller is a different school in many matters, including thought, and all the managers that took charge of Al Ahly were respectable.

"Marcel Koller among his specialties is to follow up on the youth team and he is focusing on this as we saw players from the youth team who participated with the first team lately."

One is left wondering whether Mortagy's comments would be the same if Mosimane was a European coach.

But that is a story for another day.

Liberia coach threatens troubled Bafana.

Bafana Bafana have a difficult task ahead on Tuesday. Image: Twitter

If the words of Liberia coach, Ansumana Keita are anything to go by, Bafana Bafana must brace themselves for war when they take the pitch at Samuel Kanyon Doe Sports Complex on Tuesday.

Liberia stunned Bafana on Friday evening at Orlando Stadium when they came from two goals down to draw 2-2, setting up a tantamount battle in the return leg in their own backyard.

Keita, who was making his senior national team coaching debut against Bafana, has declared an all-out war on Broos's troops, in a game Bafana just can't afford not to win.

"What I’m telling you is (that we have) a tactical strategy we will use to make South Africa suffer," Keita said after the match on Friday as quoted by Times Live. https://www.timeslive.co.za/sport/soccer/2023-03-25-we-will-make-bafana-suffer-liberia-coach-ansumana-keita-declares-war-on-broos-men/

"We want to win and we are not going to choke. We are going to play, no matter what happens we will play."

Although the Lone Stars mentor accepted that South Africa is better than his side in many factors, he is adamant that his boys will inflict more pain on under pressure Bafana.

"South Africa is bigger than us in football everywhere but we are more prepared than them at this time. Mentally, physically, technically and tactically we are prepared. I’m unapologetic and I’m telling the truth. At home, we are prepared.

We knew Bafana will miss a lot of goals:

"We knew Bafana Bafana would miss a lot of goals, but that’s football, one has to miss and one has to capitalise on that. We kept our calm, defended well," Keita said.

"I said to my players, in the dressing room, if Bafana score 100, we will score 100. So, when they score don’t worry, keep calm, focus and let’s go.

"Trust me when I say before 8am or 9am the stadium would be packed already. The Liberians will be there to support their team.

His message to Bafana:

"And Bafana Bafana here is a message for you, we are going to compete there. We will compete and we will play them."

Kickoff will be at 6pm SA time.

Shabba on why Sundowns are successful.

Simphiwe Tshabalala. Image: Twitter.

Former Kaizer Chiefs and Bafana Bafana winger, Simphiwe Shabalala, has come out in full praise of Mamelodi Sundowns.

Shabba is highly impressed by the Sundowns scouting system, that has brought gems like Marcelo Allende, Gaston Sirino, Peter Shalulile, Cassius Mailula, as well as youngsters like Siyabonga Mabena and Ntando Nkosi to Chloorkop.

"Contrary to the statements, I would say that we can learn from the scouting system, how they run the development structures, the investment in development," Shabalala told journalists at a Nedbank Cup event, as quoted by Soccer Laduma. https://www.snl24.com/soccerladuma/local/premiership/mamelodi-sundowns/shabba-weighs-in-on-sundowns-money-debate-20230326

"And aso it's not a team that only buys, they keep on manufacturing players and promote at the right time, they introduce these players gradually, they don't just throw them in the deep end."

On the seamless integration of new players at Downs:

"I am not sure but I believe that maybe they are being taken into the induction process, so that they learn, they understand the culture of the team, they understand what success comes with in terms of pressure and expectations, hence they don't struggle when given an opportunity."

On whether Downs success is because of their huge financial muscle:

"And also it is not about how much money you have, it's about how well you utilize the resources, how well do you invest that money that will also enable you to get good returns.

"It's about reinvesting all the time, it's a long-term project. For me I think that's what I like about the whole system that they've created and now they've become an institution."

Apparently, Chiefs have beaten Pirates in the race for Msimango.

Given Msimango. Image: Twitter

If latest reports are anything to go by, Kaizer Chiefs will have a new center-half pairing next season.

This comes after goal.com revealed that Amakhosi have signed TS Galaxy's rock solid defender, given Msimango. https://www.goal.com/en-za/news/why-kaizer-chiefs-signed-orlando-pirates-target-msimango-and-what-to-expect-at-soweto-giants/blte3d4530e11490bf8

The 25-year-old has played a major role in helping Galaxy concede just 12 league goals so far this season, and should be one of the front runners for the defender of the season award.

With Chiefs having struggled to keep clean sheets this campaign, largely through some erratic defending, Msimango's addition will come as a welcome relief to coach Arthur Zwane.

His arrival, on top of Thatayaone Ditlhokwe, another top defender signed from SuperSport United, will see a few defenders leaving Naturena.

The most glaring names being Eric Mathoho, Austin Dube, and Njabulo Ngcobo, who are clearly not in coach Arthur Zwane's plans.

An earlier report from Soccer Laduma, had suggested that Msimango was well on his way to Orlando Pirates, according to their source.

"Orlando Pirates appear to be front runners for Given Msimango's signature as things stand. The club is likely to meet with the player's representatives in the coming days to discuss a possible move," the source said as quoted by Soccer Laduma. https://www.snl24.com/soccerladuma/local/premiership/orlando-pirates/orlando-pirates-lead-kaizer-chiefs-in-race-for-given-msimango-20230322

It will be interesting to see where exactly Msimango will end up. But one thing is for sure, Chiefs needs him more than Pirates.

Mosimane runs the rule over the Broos.

Al Ahli Saudi coach, Pitso Mosimane. Image: Twitter

If there is a coach who is fearless when it comes to speaking his mind, it is Pitso Mosimane.

The former Mamelodi Sundowns and Al Ahly SC coach, who is currently based in Saudi Arabia with Al Ahli Saudi, has said his piece on Bafana Bafana coach, Hugo Broos.

Broos, who is also prone to shooting from the hip, is under deep scrutiny after his Bafana side gave away a 2-0 lead to draw 2-2 with Liberia.

Mosimane has come out to say that he is taken aback by the things said by Broos.

"Sometimes our coach says what he wants to say, any time any day, I listened to a voice clip [on Wednesday], he said that he’s responsible for AFCON but nobody must blame him for the World Cup [failure]," Mosimane said as quoted by iDiski Times. https://www.idiskitimes.co.za/bafana-bafana/mosimane-on-broos-sometimes-coach-says-what-he-wants/

"I think when you are a national [team] coach, it’s AFCON and the World Cup hey, so maybe he was told that he’s not responsible for the results of the World Cup, I mean how do you say that – I don’t why he said that.

"But anyone, I think Coach Broos has done well by unveiling young players and all that at the beginning of course, it’s a little bit different now, Themba Zwane is back, Percy [Tau] is back, which is good – I think we will qualify for AFCON, we only need four points.

"I’ve seen Liberia play against Morocco, in Morocco, we will qualify. But sometimes coach Broos says whatever he wants to say, I get taken aback and as a South African citizen and as a coach, sometimes."

While Mosimane conceded that the things uttered by Broos to the media could reflect his personality, he believes the Belgian mentor has no excuse not to lead South Africa to the next world cup.

Also Read: https://safootballtxt.wordpress.com/2023/03/25/are-swallows-hoping-for-a-four-match-winning-streak-from-mammila/

"But that’s his own personality and philosophy and how he looks at our country, I don’t know – what’s important is focusing on results, take us to AFCON, very well that’s what we want and we have no excuse not to make the World Cup, the next World Cup? I mean it’s’ nine countries, I mean how can we miss that? We won’t miss that."

Incidentally, South African football fans believe Mosimane should be recalled to lead Bafana Bafana, with no more faith shown in Broos after the Liberia saga.

Are Swallows hoping for a four match winning streak from Mammila?

Morgan Mammila with Musa Nyatama. Image credit: Swallows FC Twitter.

Morgan Mammila, of Chippa United fame, has been appointed as technical advisor at relegation threatened Swallows FC, just month after he announced his emotional retirement from coaching.

Swallows are 14th on the Dstv Premiership table, with 24 points after 23 games, just four points away from the automatic relegation spot.

After the departure of Ernst Middendorp to Germany, one would have expected Swallows to appoint an experienced tactician to their technical team, considering their relegation battle.

Morgan Mammila, who suffered a lot of ridicule because of his D-License coaching qualification at the time, doesn't have much to show in terms of coaching achievements, which makes it difficult to understand why on earth David Mogashoa would hand him such a crucial position.

Also Read: https://safootballtxt.wordpress.com/2023/03/25/we-told-the-players-that-the-game-is-not-over-helman-mkhalele

Could Swallows be hoping for a four match winning streak?

Mammila's best coaching achievement was taking Chippa United on a run of four matches unbeaten when he took over the coaching reigns from Daine Klate.

After that impressive run, with Mammila looking well on his way to becoming an unlikely success story in South African football, his beginner's luck ran out, as he won just one in 10 matches, which led to his sacking.

He has now resurfaced at Swallows, and the only thing that one can think of about his appointment, is that Swallows are hoping he can bring his four match winning touch to escape the dreaded drop to the Motsepe Foundation.

There is absolutely no other reason. Mammila is not well known for his tactical know-how, as his final run at Chippa United proved.

It is not like he is a Dylan Kerr, a coach who has pulled off some great relegation escapes.

What Mammila is well-known for, is his administration skills.

So, his Swallows appointment as a technical advisor is baffling to say the least, it has to be the four match winning streak!

Desperate times call for desperate measures, Mammila as a technical advisor is a desperate measure.

Swallows have won just three in their last 10 league games, maybe Mammila's arrival can help them go on an amazing four match winning run, and stay safe from relegation, who knows!

We told the players that the game is not over - Helman Mkhalele.

Helman Mkhalele and Hugo Broos. Image: Twitter

Honesty, in football, especially when it comes to analyzing the performance of one's team, is key in helping the team improve their future performances.

In Bafana Bafana assistant coach, Helman Mkhalele's comments in the post match conference, there wasn't enough honesty in his assessment of the team's performance.

There was nothing well about Bafana's display against Liberia on Friday night, to even say they played well in patches, would be like looking for a needle in a haystack.

The reality is, Bafana's performance was scrappy, they were not patient enough in possession, which led to them giving the ball away cheaply.

As for the missed chances that pissed Hugo Broos off, the less said, the better.

The best that the team could have done, was to manage the game and try to protect their lead, even if it meant playing ugly!

But the substitutions made did nothing to suggest that Bafana's technical team were aware of what was happening on the pitch.

"I believe we played the game so well but we played in patches," Mkhalele told iDiski Times. https://www.idiskitimes.co.za/bafana-bafana/mkhalele-why-coach-hugo-stormed-off-the-pitch/

"We were supposed to kill the game in the first half but we took the foot off the pedal. Then they started to regain confidence. That’s where I thought we lost it.

Also Read: https://safootballtxt.wordpress.com/2023/03/25/bafana-bafana-a-true-reflection-of-the-sorry-state-of-south-african-football/

"More especially after the first goal they scored, that’s when we tried to urge the players to remain composed, but you could see that they started to panic and I believe that led to the equalising goal.

"We told the players that the game is not over, we need to make sure that we take the chances that we created because any goal that they will score, it will work on their minds positively, which it did and negatively on our side."

With all said and done, not all is lost, Bafana can go to Liberia and get a positive result, it is possible.

Broos, Mkhalele, and the players, owe the nation an AFCON appearance, now that is not too much of an ask, is it?

Bafana Bafana: A true reflection of the sorry state of South African football.

For Friday night's crucial encounter against Liberia, Bafana Bafana coach, Hugo Broos, did everything almost right, except for the poor second half substitutions.

His starting line-up included six Mamelodi Sundowns players, a team that is currently the best when it comes to South African football.

On top of the Sundowns players, there was Lyle Foster, probably South Africa's best export at the moment. There was Percy Tau, who doing well for Al Ahly, and Bongokuhle Hlongwane, who is also enjoying some good form in the MLS.

Broos's line-up, in essence, was arguably the best that Mzansi has to offer, yet they failed to beat Liberia, who are ranked 150th by Fifa.

The 2-2 draw, which might see Bafana failing to qualify for AFCON in Ivory Coast next year January, was a true reflection of the standard of South African football.

In the domestic league, Sundowns have no peers, they are more than 20 points ahead of two of the country's biggest teams, Orlando Pirates and Kaizer Chiefs.

Pirates and Chiefs, in a South Africa with a healthy state of football, should be the biggest domestic suppliers of Bafana playing personnel.

But that is not the case, simply because the two giants don't have enough quality in their ranks.

Pirates's best player at the moment is Monnapule Saleng, who, in all honesty, has a long way to go when it comes to international football.

As for Chiefs, they can't even provide the national team with a single player.

Let us say for example, that Amakhosi were the Manchester United of South African football, which in a way, they are!

Now imagine a Man United without a player in the England squad, would that not be a disaster?

Also Read: https://safootballtxt.blogspot.com/2023/03/broos-can-go-but-quality-of-bafana-will.html?m=1

Moving on, let us look at our foreign players, and where they are playing their football.

Our most expensive export at the moment, Lyle Foster, is playing in the English Championship.

When you look at the EPL, La Liga, Ligue One, and the Serie A, there are many African players doing well for their clubs, but South Africans are missing.

Do we even have a Serie A ready player in this country? I doubt it.

So, while it hurts to see Bafana giving away a 2-0 lead to draw 2-2 at home against Liberia, maybe there is a truth that we have to accept.

And that truth is, international football has left us so far behind, we are left with the likes of Liberia as our peers.

Broos can go, but the quality of Bafana will remain the same, problem not solved.

This article will be short and sweet, like Broos's post match conference.

If there is one thing Bafana Bafana knows how to do very well, disappointing the nation takes the cake! They are so good at it, they have no competitors.

On Friday evening at Orlando Stadium, Bafana were at their disappointing best again, giving away a 2-0 lead to draw 2-2 against Liberia, a result that has left their AFCON qualification hopes in jeopardy.

As is always the case, Hugo Broos will take the fall for the result, with his second half substitutions not doing him any favours.

Broos should have done better when it comes to managing the game through calculated substitutions.

Also Read: https://safootballtxt.wordpress.com/2023/03/24/tshabalalas-sober-thoughts-on-chiefs-should-put-a-rare-smile-on-zwanes-face

For starters, Luke Le Roux was having a nightmare of a second half, Broos had no business keeping him on the pitch, Sithole, or even Timm, should have been brought on in his place.

Zwane was not at his best, but maybe his substitution came too early, Bafana needed to keep possession, and use the ball intelligently in the final third, in other words, they still needed Zwane to stay a little longer on the pitch.

The coach's changes might have cost Bafana the game, but there is a bigger problem than that, and that is the quality of our players.

Here is a game where Bafana enjoyed 55% of not so profitable possession, I must say.

They fashioned 16 goal attempts, with only five on target, with glaring misses from Percy Tau and Bongokuhle  Hlongwane, something Broos could do nothing about.

Despite having most of the ball, Bafana were just scrappy with it, like a team that was playing together for the first time, without any identity nor synergy.

In short, Bafana were just disappointing.

Perhaps, what Friday evening's game highlighted, in bold and bright colors, is the lack of quality in our national team.

We are not any superior than Liberia, or Mozambique, Angola and others smaller football nations like we are.

That is a fact we need to accept as soon as possible. Improvement will only come once we step out of the bubble of superiority illusion we are living in.

To avoid a lot of unnecessary heart breaks and useless finger pointing, we need to accept that Bafana are a true reflection of the standards of our players.

Just like our Under-23s showed us against Congo.

So, to keep this sweet and short, Broos can go, but Bafana will remain Bafana - boys on the international stage.

Tshabalala's sober thoughts on Chiefs should put a rare smile on Zwane's face.

Perhaps, what Tshabalala failed to mention on his comments, is how Zwane cannot be expected to build a King's Castle with mud bricks. But that is a story for another day.

Former Amakhosi star, Simphiwe Tshabalala's comments on Kaizer Chiefs, and head coach Arthur Zwane come from a sober mind.

They are not intoxicated by emotions and unreasonable expectations that Zwane has had to deal with from sections of the media, Amakhosi fans, and football pundits alike.

Chiefs have been inconsistent with their performances this season, which is to be expected from a team that is on a process of renewal.

And that is something Tshabalala has acknowledged in his backing of Zwane, a fact that some of the Amakhosi legends have ignored in their criticism of 10111.

"I am very sad with the way things are but equally understanding as well, that transition is difficult, whenever there’s change, there will always be challenges, you have got a new coach that has been given an opportunity," Tshabalala told the media as quoted by goal.com. https://www.goal.com/en-za/news/tshabalala-jumps-to-zwane-defence-kaizer-chiefs-not-horrible-not-the-worst-season/blt430e888ab3e245f0

"It is his first season and there’s a lot of expectations, there are new players that came in as well so they haven’t been consistent in that regard. I think it’s the first time this season they have won four consecutive games, which is good."

Tshabalala believes Amakhosi are not as horrible as people make them out to be.

Also Read: https://safootballtxt.wordpress.com/2023/03/24/stubborn-broos-cant-be-moved-from-his-mailula-overseas-move-stance-but-what-if-he-be-right

"The majority say they are having a horrible season, but when you look at the log, they are in the top-four, same games, same points with [Orlando] Pirates, but the more focus is on Chiefs.

"I think it’s because they know what the team can bring, they know the calibre the team has as well, hence the pressure and expectations – they still have a chance [to win something] they are in the quarter-finals, it’s not over."

It is indeed not over for Amakhosi, although their inconsistency makes it hard to believe they can go all the way and lift the Nedbank Cup, it is possible.

Stubborn Broos can't be moved from his Mailula overseas move stance, but, what if he be right?

Bafana Bafana coach, Hugo Broos, has remained adamant on his views about Cassius Mailula's readiness to ply his trade overseas.

The Belgian believes Mailula still needs to gain more experience, especially through Caf Champions League football.

"When I look at him, his behavior in the group is very good," the Belgian tactician said as quoted by iDiski Times. https://www.idiskitimes.co.za/dstv-premiership/broos-praises-mailula-but-maintains-europe-stance/

"He’s a guy that has his two feet on the ground, but there are a lot of things to do about him. He’s a young player that is scoring goals at Sundowns when he wants, and that is very cool.

"So I like that very much."

"Secondly, I said it already a few days ago when somebody asked me if he’s ready for Europe, I’ll repeat again, no, Mailula is not ready for Europe.

"He needs to gain more experience and therefore I hope for him that he stays at Sundowns and plays again in CAF Champions League next year. But his experience is also good. But he has something already now that is very important, he is scoring.

"Once he is in the 16 area and he gets a chance, it’s a goal. He has it already. But if he can have a little bit of experience by playing good games, games of high level, I think we can have a very good striker, certainly."

Also Read: https://safootballtxt.wordpress.com/2023/03/24/does-notoane-really-believe-his-under-23-side-can-win-in-congo-like-really

Why Broos could be right about Mailula:

Cassius's football talent is beyond any reasonable doubt, he is a top footballer with a lot of highly sought after qualities in modern football.

His talent alone, if it was all that matters in football, can take Mailula to the best leagues in Europe.

Unfortunately, talent is not enough.

For Mailula to succeed in the European game, he will need his mental muscles to be as strong as his physical ones.

To develop those strong mental muscles, Mailula needs to be tested more in highly demanding games, and for now, he can get such experiences in the Caf Champions League.

With Sundowns also set to take part in the Caf Super League, Mailula will have more opportunities to test himself under extremely difficult conditions, which will develop his mental strength, something you can't survive without in Europe.

Broos's opinion might be unpopular, as country, we are desperate to see our best talent playing abroad, but he could be right.

Another season with Downs in the CAFCL, coupled with more Bafana caps, can do Mailula a world of good before he moves abroad.

If he goes now, and he finds the going tough, the very same people who say he is ready, will be on his back, calling him a flop!

Maybe, just maybe, Broos is right.

Does Notoane really believe his Under-23 side can win in Congo? Like really?

David Notoane is a man of strong faith, for it takes really strong and unwavering faith to believe that the SA Under-23 side can go to Congo Brazzaville and come back victorious.

The thing about faith is, it sometimes entails believing in things that have no proof of existence, and when it comes to the national U23 side, there was no proof in their performance on Thursday that they can go to Congo and get a positive result.

Congo played with a lot of tactical maturity, and used their physical superiority to their advantage to nullify the threat of the technically gifted South African team.

They did that without breaking much of a sweat, one can only imagine how they will be even a better side in their own backyard, with the away goal at their advantage and a desperate SA U23 team that is bound to make a lot of mistakes in their for a miraculous victory.

But Notoane has faith in his team, and he believes they can go to Congo and come back unscathed, despite the obvious deficiencies in his side's performance.

"We lacked a little bit of the experience, maturity and the technical finesse to find the right pass, and the right movements to penetrate them. But they are young guys, I am happy that we didn't lose, which is very important that we got a 1-1 draw, but I think we are capable of doing away and get a result," Notoane said after the game.

He was disappointment with the way his team defended.

"The way we conceded, I'm very disappointed because it's a lapse of concentration moment, we've got two big boys, and the striker is in between them. We didn't stop the cross from coming in, which is something that we knew, that they will be playing out [on Msane's side].

On Samkelo Zwane and Kgaogelo Chauke's performances:

"In terms of the intensity of the game, the physicality of the game, the tempo, some players were struggling a little bit.

"Zwane [Samkelo], Kgaogelo [Chauke] coming in, didn't show the energy that we would have wanted on the ball, and show his quality, but again we just thought let us give him a chance, and see how he copes with the physicality of these guys [Congo]."

On what they need to improve on before Monday:

"But the skills are there, the football intelligence is there, but we are going to require more than the technical ability, but more aggression, the strength, and the fight, more especially the fight."

The fact of the matter is Monday comes to soon for the improvements required for Notoane's boys to win in Congo.

But miracles do happen in football, with Notoane's faith, maybe, just maybe, the unthinkable may happen.

Thursday, March 23, 2023

SA Under-23 Olympics hopes hang in the balance as they draw 1-1 with Congo.

South Africa Under-23 were held to a one all draw by Congo Brazzaville on Tuesday afternoon at Dobsonville Stadium.

David Notoane's boys struggled to put together cohesive performance against a Congolese side that used their physical presence to their advantage.

Despite fielding a team full of individual brilliance, lack of team chemistry was evident in the South African side, which can be attributed to the boys not having enough preparation time to build some form of synergy.

In the first half, Notoane's boys barely put three passes together, with Congo exacting their physical capabilities in one vs one duels to pressure South African players into losing possession.

As a team, the Congolese remained compact in their defending third, not allowing the South Africans any space to maneuver. In possession, they looked to get forward as quick as possible to take advantage of the space left behind by the likes of Siyanda Msani and Keagan Johannes in the outside channels.

Their ploy paid just before half time when Rhaemma Bissila gave them the lead with a close range header.

In the second half, South Africa played with more urgency, looking for the equalizer, but there was still not much improvement in the quality of their play.

It took the introduction of Mduduzi Shabalala after the 60th minute to change the complexion of the game for Notoane's side.

Shabalala delivered a pin point cross from the right outside channel that was guided home by SuperSport United winger, Thapelo Maseko.

Incidentally, Maseko was the most threatening South African player, and finding the equalizer capped a good performance from the skillful youngster.

After the equalizer, it was back to square one for SA as Congo increased the intensity in their play, both on and off the ball, which seemed to unsettle SA even more.

With the game ending at 1-1, South Africa will have to beat Congo at
Stade Alphonse Massemba-Débat in Brazzaville on Monday if they are to qualify for the Afcon U23 tournament to be held in Morocco.

If they play a draw, it will have to be 2-all or more for them to qualify on away goals.

Amazulu to release key players.

Ramahlwe Mphahlele, Keagan Buchanan, and Lehlohonolo Majoro will allegedly not be part of AmaZulu FC next season, according to a report by iDiski Times.

"Majoro, Keagan Buchanan and Ramahlwe – their contracts come to an end at the end of the season and they have been informed that the club will not exercise options on their contracts," said the source as quoted by iDiski Times. https://www.idiskitimes.co.za/dstv-premiership/mphahlele-majoro-buchanan-to-leave-amazulu/

"We will not enter into a new contract with them. These are excellent players, senior players who have done well, especially Majoro has done a lot for AmaZulu over the years.

"Others have really had a brief stint with the team, but they have put a hell of an effort for AmaZulu. These are part of Fohloza’s plans."

Usuthu boss, Sandile Zungu, has big plans for the club, which includes becoming a household name in South African football by 2032, which will be their 100th anniversary.

Part of the plan was released in January when Usuthu appointed Reneilwe Letsholonyane and Mbulelo Mabizela as development coaches.

Zungu has also handed Romain Folz a three year contract, despite poor results that have seen the club remain 10th on the Dstv Premiership table, with 28 points after 23 games.

As part of their long term plan, more senior players can be expected to exit Usuthu, with younger players brought in to carry the club forward.

In February, AmaZulu signed 22-year-old Mswati Mavuso to replace Makhehlene Makhaula who joined Orlando Pirates, a clear indication of their plan to reduce the age of their squad.

Mosimane believes Hunt can win the Caf Champions League.

Image: Al Ahli Saudi Twitter.

Pitso Mosimane has invited Gavin Hunt to launch during the off-season, to plan for the Caf Champions League.

Mosimane, currently coaching Al Ahli Saudi in Saudi Arabia, has won Africa's Premier club competition three times, twice with Al Ahly and once with Mamelodi Sundowns in 2016.

He believes Hunt can emulate his success in Africa and win the CAFCL with SuperSport United, which is a major compliment coming from a coach of Jingles' standing.

Supersport United are currently second on the Dstv Premiership log with 39 points in 23 games.

They are just two points ahead of Orlando Pirates and Kaizer Chiefs, both at 37, who are also in the hunt for the CafCL spot.

Also Read: https://safootballtxt.wordpress.com/2023/03/23/ofori-not-threatened-by-chaine

With the experienced Hunt as their coach this season, SuperSport have turned into a competitive side once again, and it will be no surprise if they finish ahead of Pirates and Chiefs to clinch the coveted CafCL spot.

After Hunt congratulated him for winning coach of the month in Saudi Arabia, Mosimane responded by inviting the Amantsantsantsa coach to lunch, with the CafCL on the menu.

"Thanks. Off-season I will host you for lunch and plan for [the] Caf Champions League," said Mosimane.

"I know you can win it, why not? You have been in this tournament for many years and you understand it well. Just a courtesy lunch and a catch-up meeting also."

Ofori not threatened by Chaine.

While Orlando Pirates goalkeeper, Richard Ofori is recovering from an injury, Sipho Chaine, who signed for Bucs from Chippa United during the January transfer window, has been slowly going about the business of making the number jersey his own.

Chaine's performances have left many a football fan pondering on whether Ofori will be able to reclaim his spot in the starting line-up when he is fit to play.

The former Chippa United shot stopper has been impressive for Pirates, not only with his goalkeeping skills, but his ability to be an extra man during the team's build up from the back, something that Ofori is not comfortable doing.

The Ghanaian International, Ofori, has revealed that he is not threatened by Chaine's good performances, saying he is fully behind the 26-year-old.

"We motivate him [Chaine] because this spot [the No.1] isn't about the individuals. People were there before we came, so when we are not there someone else must continue.

"It's not about one person...you can't be greedy and be thinking about yourself only,'' said Ofori as quoted by Sowetan Live. https://www.sowetanlive.co.za/sport/soccer/2023-03-23-ofori-welcomes-chaine-competition/

Ofori emphasized the importance of the club's success over individual glory, saying he is always encouraging Chaine to keep focused.

"The most important thing is the success of the club, so we also talk to Sipho, motivating him to say, 'keep on growing and keep focused'. He's been doing well and that's the most important thing for the club."

Chaine has appeared 13 times for Pirates, he has conceded 12 goals and kept four clean sheets.

Before his injury, that kept him out of Ghana's world cup squad, Ofori had played 13 times, keeping seven clean sheets, with just six goals conceded.

Mike Makaab disagrees with Broos on Mailula.

Prosport International boss, Mike Makaab has weighed in on the subject of Cassius Mailula and an overseas move.

Recently, Bafana Bafana coach, Hugo Broos raised a few eye brows when he said Mailula is not ready for European football.

Makaab has since completely disagreed with Broos.

"I'm going to use an example, in January last year we signed a player who was playing in ivory coast, born 2005, Ousmane Diomande, he was playing in an Ivorian academy," Makaab told iGagasi FM.

"Cassius, he was born in 2002 if I am not mistaken. He's probably playing for the best team in Africa, not only is he playing for the best team in Africa, but he is starring for the best team in Africa, not only in the local league but in the continent.

"So let me go back to Ousmane, we signed him and we sent him to Europe, he went to FC Midtjylland, they loaned him out to CD Mafra from the Portuguese second division, last night, it wasn't for the first time, but he started for Sporting Lisbon that beat Arsenal, he played 120 minutes."

Makaab believes that at 21-years-old, Mailula is no longer a youngster in football.

"You look at the youngster Mabena that Rulani introduced, thats a youngster, not a 21 year old."
